Welcome! My web pages are primarily about computer programming. I guess that's partly because I've been programming some 30 years now and partly because I enjoy it so much. But I also may cover politics, the debates and compromises which led to the U.S. Constitution, religion, and a host of other subjects, as time allows me. I'm very interested in how things work inside -- the details are important to me. It's not enough for me to know that someone else knows the facts and to leave it at that. I need to know, myself. This motivation drives me. If it drives you, too, then you may enjoy some of what I have to say. Conversely, if you are perfectly satisfied writing relatively high-level C++ classes without ever needing to understand how an exception is handled or how multiple inheritance is handled with vtables, then you may not find as much of value here. I'm not saying I'm going to tell you all these things, just that such interests are what motivate me and the writing I do in these pages. My interests span general embedded design and microcontroller assembly level programming, compilers, operating systems and concurrent programming, small-scale robotics, telescopes and optical design, general amateur astronomy, graphics and game programming, PC hardware and software, protected mode programming, digital signal processing, closed-loop feedback and process control, micropower electronic design, radio electronics, x86 assembly programming, numerical methods, number theory, and general mathematics. I'm no expert in most of those. But those areas get my attention at times.
